Samsung invests Rs.517 crore for Noida plant expansion

Electronics major Samsung Tuesday said it has invested Rs.517 crore for the expansion of its Noida plant under the UP Mega Policy. The expanded facility of Samsung India was inaugurated by UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav here Tuesday. Samsung India Electronics has completed 20 years in India and now has three research labs and two manufacturing plants in the country with a total of 45,000 employees. “Uttar Pradesh is one of the most important states for Samsung and the expansion of the Noida Mobile unit will further strengthen our presence in the country and enhance our manufacturing operations. The Noida factory is a star performer and rates as one of the best facilities across the globe,” Hyun Chil Hong, president & chief executive officer, Samsung India Electronics, said. “Currently over 11,000 Samsung employees are working in UP and we are looking forward to creating more job opportunities in the state,” he added. 'Super Saturn' with gigantic ring system found

Astronomers have found that the ring system they saw eclipsing a very young Sun-like star -- known as J1407 -- is of enormous proportions, much larger and heavier than the ring system of Saturn. The ring system - the first of its kind to be found outside our solar system - was discovered in 2012 by a team led by Eric Mamajek from the University of Rochester in Britain. A new analysis of the data, led by Matthew Kenworthy from the Leiden Observatory in the Netherlands, shows that the ring system consists of over 30 rings - each of them tens of millions of kms in diameter. Furthermore, they found gaps in the rings, which indicate that satellites (or exomoons) may have formed. "The details that we see in the light curve are incredible. The eclipse lasted for several weeks, but you see rapid changes on time scales of tens of minutes as a result of fine structures in the rings," Kenworthy said. Apple’s biggest quarterly profit ever

The US technology giant Apple has announced its biggest quarterly profits that has been ever made by a public company. Apple has reported a net profit to the tune of $18bn for the fiscal first quarter, that exceeds $15.9bn of ExxonMobil that created a record during the second quarter of 2012, according to organization Standard and Poor's. The surge is being attributed to the record sales of iPhones in terms of profits. Apple had sold 74.5 million iPhones for three months till 27 December which actually exceeded analyst's expectations.

YouTube’s default HTML5 players for supporting more devices

YouTube has made an announcement today that its Web video player would be now defaulting to HTML5 through Adobe Flash which gives more flexibility for bloggers, developers and consumers. The team had worked on switching to HTML5 players that was reportedly marked by numerous technical issues YouTube would also be making use of MediaSource Extensions for running smooth live streams on many devices, including the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Chromecast and other popular Web browsers like Safari 8, Chrome, and IE 11. This is being seen as overdue for the company in making this standard platform available.
